Scan and Read

A software application that uses Optical Character recognition (OCR) to convert scanned text into electronic documents, which can be read aloud by the computer using synthesized speech. Most packages allow the size, style and color of text to be manipulated; track words with visual indicators while they are being spoken; provide editing and note taking options; and offer a variety of reference utilities (e.g., dictionary and thesaurus).
