GAAD 2024: Built Without Barriers

The University of Minnesota will again host a half-day, online event on Thursday, May 16, 2024 as part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). This year’s theme is “Built Without Barriers."

We invite passionate and knowledgeable individuals to contribute as speakers. Complete the GAAD 2024 Speaker Interest Form by February 7, 2024.

Pope Tech: Measure Website Accessibility

This presentation will provide an overview of the Pope Tech web accessibility tool and demonstrate key functionality. You will learn how to set up a website in Pope Tech, run a scan, locate errors, and track progress over time.

Pope Tech is a web accessibility checking tool available for use with UMN websites. Website editors can use Pope Tech to scan a website for accessibility issues and view a report of specific accessibility errors, along with their exact location. You can use this information to resolve accessibility errors on your website, helping your content reach its intended audience.

Redesigning for Cognitive Ease

Alyssa Panetta has been designing and developing websites by hand since Y2K. She has worked for educational mathematics software companies and is currently a web designer/developer for the University Libraries, University at Albany. 

After a diagnosis of brain cancer in 2020 and subsequent treatment, Alyssa started a website called dear talula, where she writes letters to her removed tumor, which is preserved in a tumor research bank.
