Disorganized Input: AI, Access and the Neurodivergent Brain

This session explores how large language models (LLMs) offer a uniquely accessible interface for people with ADHD, learning disabilities and other neurodivergent profiles. Unlike traditional productivity tools, LLMs accept unorganized, contemporaneous input — meeting users where they are cognitively, rather than requiring pre-structured thought.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for thinking about artificial intelligence (AI) as assistive technology and concrete strategies for self-directed use. This session is intended for staff and faculty interested in accessibility, disability and emerging technology. No prior AI experience is required.

The presenter, Matthew Belsky, is an access consultant in the University of Minnesota’s Disability Resource Center (Student Access). He has ADHD and has spent the past several years exploring how GenAI can function as a practical support tool for neurodivergent people, particularly around executive functioning. His current focus is on practical ways AI can reduce friction for students with ADHD, autism and learning disabilities.
